About the Project

Attawan Anisininew Designs

Start with ancestral Indigenous culture, add a high-end, modern twist—then make it fashion!

Inspired by Oji-Cree language and artistry, as well as designer Darlene Daniels’ own professional style and creations, the Attawan brand brings a playful yet traditional twist to high-end, modern Indigenous fashion.

Based on the brand name and Oji-Cree word attawan, the Attawan logo mark takes the individual syllabics of the word and re-imagines them as an in-progress floral motif. With a nod to beadwork, ribbonwork, and appliqué, the logo mark reflects the artisanal purpose of the brand. Although the symbolism is obvious, the abstract nature of the logo is clean, stylish, and sophisticated.

For the word “Attawan”, we custom-designed a bold, minimalist font with strong, geometric lines for a high-end fashion vibe. Then, we paired it with an adventurous typeface that finishes the wordmark off with a cheeky and energetic flourish.

The vibrant brand colours reflect Attawan’s own design aesthetic while borrowing from both traditional cultural art and modern design.
